The Hunger Games

I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! This book was recommended by Stephenie Meyer (author of the Twilight Saga) on her website. Since I loved her books so much, I figured she’d probably have good taste in books. I was NOT disappointed!
This is a futuristic book that takes place in Panem – a nation that came up from the ruins of what was once North America. Panem is a nation with a beautiful Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districs in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, cannot believe it when her 12-year-old sister’s name is pulled, and steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. Katniss has been close to dead before – and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
I found myself lying awake at night, wondering what was going to happen next, and then turning my light back on to find out. Definitely a page-turner!
