My Scientific Investigation

10-6-09 Materials for the Experiment

Tomorrow we will be starting our experiments! Make sure you bring all the materials that you need from home. If there are things you want me to provide, I need to have a list BY TODAY so that I can have them ready for you.

I can’t wait to watch the experiments in action! :D

10-02-09 Designing Your Own Experiment

I hope you’re all excited to be designing your own experiment this week! You should have a purpose question already chosen. Here’s the schedule for next week:

Monday – Research information for your experiment
Tuesday – Type up the experiment procedure STEP-BY-STEP
Wednesday – Conduct experiment
Thursday – Analyze Data and Draw Conclusions
* We may move this to Tuesday if more time is needed for the experiments
Friday – NO SCHOOL
Monday – NO SCHOOL

I can’t wait to see the results you all come up with! :D

9-29-09 HOMEWORK!

I hope you all were happy with your Progress Reports! Don’t forget: they go home on THURSDAY and should be signed by a parent and returned to your excel teacher on FRIDAY!

SCIENCE – Just a reminder: we had homework tonight! You were supposed to draw AND describe a day in the life of you as a scientist (with a science career). Don’t forget to color!

LIT STUDIES – You have a setting postcard to finish! It should be colored AND there should be a letter from your character on the back describing what the setting is like. It’s due tomorrow! :)

9-26-09 PROGRESS REPORTS!!

Just a reminder: ALL late work is due on Monday in order to change your grades for progress reports. We’ll be passing the reports around on Tuesday, so make sure you’ve got everything turned in so that you get the grades you want!

So far in science you should have turned in:
Bubble Lab
Safety Symbol
Safety Magazine Ad
Safety Commercial Script
Science Job Fair Sheet
Scientist Drawing

9-25-09 More Science Careers

I wish I could share ALL the possible science jobs out there for you! There’s SO many of them! We’re going to keep looking at a few new ones next week. After that, we’re going to start learning the Scientific Method. That should be a lot of fun since in order to learn it, we’ve got to DO it, which means…lots of labs!!! :D

9-23-09 Science Careers

I hope you all enjoyed the job fair yesterday! More than that, I hope you learned a little bit about the many jobs that are available to people who study science. There are SO many more than the 22 we had too! We’re going to be learning about a few more jobs this week, and probably a little of next week.

After that, our next topic is the Scientific Method! It’s a lot of fun because in order to learn the scientific method, we have to do LOTS of experiments! Get ready! :D

P.S. I hope you’ve finished your drawing of a scientist!

9-18-09 Safety Skit Success!

You ALL did an awesome job! I noticed as I was taping today, that NOT A SINGLE GROUP had to come up and ask me, “What do we do because so-and-so is not here?” That means that we had ZERO absences this Friday. That’s AMAZING! Hats off to you all!!! I think we’re going to have to make that a regular habit. It was nice to see all of you here.

I bet you can’t wait to see the video on Monday either. Sorry to the Inspector Gadgets, you won’t be watching it until Tuesday because we’ve got some testing going on in Lit Studies. I promise you’ll get to see it Tuesday though…they’re GREAT!

9-12-09 Safety Project!

This week we’ll be working on our Safety Projects. You and your partners will be creating a magazine ad for your safety rule that will be DUE WEDNESDAY. You’ll have Monday and part of Tuesday to work on it in class.

Then you’ll be writing a script for your TV Commercial advertising why your rule is important to follow. You’ll be working on this Tuesday, Wednesday, and part of Thursday. You’ll be presenting your commercials to the class Friday.

Can’t wait to see them!! :D
